Mitts Mitchell is the friendly glove at the heart of This Is Women’s Baseball, dedicated to preserving women's baseball history, welcoming the future, and celebrating the game. Named after Jackie Mitchell, the remarkable 17-year-old left-hander who struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in the same exhibition game in 1931, Mitts embodies the spirit of the sport. The number 26 honors the year 2026, marking the return of women’s professional baseball and the inception of This Is Women’s Baseball. Mitts is our guide through the stories that deserve special attention, including league moments and milestones, player stories, and the builders behind the game, all while fostering education, context, community, and belonging. This Is Women’s Baseball offers independent coverage and is not an official WPBL site.
